A User Experience Revolution in South Australia

Learn how Objective IQ became a game changer for three SA government departments

It is safe to say that the South Australian government has been leading the way in digital transformation well before COVID-19. While the pandemic forced many organisations to pivot, a few in South Australia began their journey years earlier.

At Collaborate 2020 (Objective's annual conference) the following three organisations shared how they have adopted one solution in particular that has really paved the way in improving user functionality – Objective IQ

Department of Premier and Cabinet, Government of South Australia

For Clayton Marsland, EDMRS Lead, Department of Premier and Cabinet, Government of South Australia, the last four years have been a journey. Prior to 2016, the department was using paper-based files. With the help of Objective, they initiated a workflow to build a parliamentary briefing process and realised the department could become fully digital.

“By 2018, the department went fully digital and by 2019, we decided to step up the browser to Objective IQ, and it’s been a lot of fun ever since," Clayton commented.

To roll out Objective IQ, the department adopted an opt in option as to avoid disrupting staff too much. The pandemic hit in the middle of the transition, and support, as well as access to the network had to be improved. The department achieved this with Objective Connect so that staff could continue working remotely and share files externally.

“We’ve had to just keep doing things and by doing that, it’s opened up a lot of opportunities for business as usual,” Clayton said. “With Objective IQ, we can now provide the type of browser app where staff can participate in workflows, download, store and send documents.”

Clayton explained that Objective IQ delivered better user experience and ease of navigation. “It has eased user adoption of EDMRS. You are able to save everything in the right spot for an improved information management outcome.”

Impressed with the self-help tools and videos, selling the benefits of Objective IQ to the leadership team was easy. With the browser as intuitive as it is, Clayton explained that he was already able to train 60% of staff for Objective IQ and 85% for workflow. “So far it has delivered an amazing result with all of the benefits that come with it.”

City of West Torrens

Liz Bailey, IT Application Support Coordinator at the City of West Torrens, has been using many Objective products and began the Objective IQ journey back in 2018 as a means to assist working securely remotely. The city is now preparing to roll out Objective Gov 365 and Objective IQ 10.6.

“Objective IQ offers better functionality and an easy-to-use interface," Liz commented.

Liz has been impressed with how easy it is to get staff started. Together with how-to guides and the Objective IQ help feature, feedback from staff is that they only needed 30 minutes to feel comfortable with navigation.

“As for the future, we hope 2021 will be better than 2020. We’ve had to change a lot, but for the user experience, we hope they appreciate the work we’ve put in,” Liz said.

Department of Human Services

Andrew McKinlay, Records and Information Manager at Department of Human Services, has been using Objective for ten years and has over 2200 users. He is looking forward to implementing Objective Gov365 after an Objective IQ rollout. As the Department of Human Services provides a range of services to State Government and Community Organisations, being able to manage things like tracking documents is critical.

"Let's not change because you want to. Change because you have to," Andrew remarked.

After an initial pilot of Objective IQ, Andrew said that the feedback has been that it is a simple, intuitive interface. “We are so impressed with the Objective IQ self-help material that we didn’t feel we had to support users by investing extra time and resources.”
