New Zealand’s regulatory environment for building consents is taking another important step toward national consistency. From July 2024 to June 2025, more than 5,000 building consent applications were accepted across the Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki regions. Soon, applicants across both regions will experience a seamless, consistent process with their councils’ move to Objective Build.
This milestone means that every application—from lodgement to Code Compliance Certificate (CCC)—will be managed within the same intuitive platform. For applicants, it creates familiarity and transparency. For Building Consent Authorities (BCAs), it delivers efficiency, consistency, and better outcomes for their communities.
In Taranaki, the combined total of 2,716 applications came from South Taranaki District Council, Stratford District Council and New Plymouth District Council, while in Hawke’s Bay, a further 2,498 applications were received across Hastings, Napier and Central Hawke’s Bay councils. Together, these numbers represent thousands of homeowners, builders and developers who will soon share the benefits of a unified applicant experience.
Continuous innovation at the core
Since Alpha and GoGet joined the Objective family, hundreds of improvements have been made to Objective Build. From the launch of the Applicant Portal, to the release of the Inspections App, and most recently, Remote Inspections, the platform continues to evolve in partnership with councils across New Zealand.
Innovation isn’t a slogan—it’s built into the DNA of Objective Build. Recent AI-enabled features are already helping applicants by automatically verifying proof of ownership, identifying multiple property owners, and pre-filling forms. These are the first of many planned AI capabilities designed to support both applicants and consenting officers, making sure human judgment is reserved for the decisions that matter most.
Looking ahead
The move by Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki councils is more than a technology upgrade—it’s a step toward a future where consistency across New Zealand’s consenting system is the norm, not the exception. With a single, familiar platform, applicants gain confidence and councils reduce friction in delivering essential housing and development outcomes.
Objective is proud to be working alongside these regions to deliver a world-class solution for councils and their customers. By bringing everyone into one connected platform, we’re helping shape a smarter, more consistent future for building in New Zealand.
