RegTech growth, trends and collaboration across a global ecosystem

An interview with Deborah Young – CEO, The RegTech Association

Deborah Young is the founding CEO of The RegTech Association (RTA), a global non-profit industry member body focused on accelerating RegTech adoption. Having advocated for the industry with Government, regulators, investors and trade agencies, she is a leading advisor on global RegTech.

Here, Objective’s Global VP of RegTech, Ben Hobby, sits down with Deborah to talk trends and global government collaboration…

“It’s interesting… I’ve always sought to try and build communities to develop better standards for an industry,” notes Deborah when reflecting on her Financial Services background to her now 170-strong RTA membership.

And it’s these sentiments what led to The RegTech Association’s formation.

“It was through a dysfunction that existed,” comments Deborah. “Regulators, regulated entities and RegTech companies had no easy way to come together to collaborate and to surface an important strategic conversation beyond just selling software.” This is where the RTA comes in: “It’s all about trying to accelerate the adoption of RegTech and to create a global centre of excellence.”

As an RTA member, Objective is fully on board with this mission. The drive to deliver great community outcomes is in our organisational make-up, and we’re delighted to work with partners such as the RTA to achieve this, especially in such a rapidly-evolving landscape where technology is crucial.

While there have been many disruptions over recent years, RegTech has become a key priority for governments everywhere according to Deborah. “There’s been a big uptake in government interest – we’re seeing faster deployments happening across all sectors and time to value has reduced significantly”.

Alongside this, Deborah acknowledges that budgets have increased – there is money to spend in trying to increase productivity and efficiency.

But what is next? And what advice would Deborah give to those seeking the opportunities that RegTech can provide?
